Making measurements with the PLG100

The PLG100 is able both to make and record single measurements for line widths and to take averages over a series of measurements. For example, the PLG100 can be used to record a series of measurements over the length of a line and return a single averaged value for the line width.

Single measurements

To log data for single measurements, choose the unit type (mm, um, mil, etc.) from the Measure|Options menu, create the new log file (File|New Tolerance) and enter the Part Number, and minimum, target and maximum values for the measurement, Layer number and property (IMP/CON).

To have data logged automatically Choose the Measure|Options dialog and click the Save after gauge checkbox — each time the Get Dimension button is clicked the measurement is recorded in the log file.

Make the measurement:

The results are displayed on screen:

Single reading

Click the Save button — the date is logged as shown below.

Single value logged

Click Reset to clear the data and begin another measurement.

Note: The Save after gauge option (Measure|Options dialog) logs data automatically. Each time the Get Dimension button is clicked the measurement is saved in the log file and the screen results reset.

Averaged measurements

Note: when datalogging using averaged measurements ensure the Save after gauge checkbox in the Measure|Options dialog is not checked.

The PLG100 can average a series of measurements to give a single reading. In the example below three measurements were taken over the length of a line. With the Save after gauge option switch off, measurements are recorded on screen as the Get Dimension button is clicked but not logged to the log file until the Save button is clicked. The Mean, Std Deviation, Maximum and Minimum values are recalculated as each measurement is added.

Value averaged over three readings

When the Save button is clicked the PLG100 stores the Mean (Average), Minimum and Maximum values of all recorded measurements as a single record in the log file.

Note: When multiple measurements are used to obtain an average reading the PASS/FAIL result is based on the mean value of all the measurements. This PASS/FAIL result is logged along with the data above.

Click the Reset button to clear the screen and begin a new measurement series.
