SiExcel – Excel lock up when using Microsoft Excel's™ Insert Function
Application Note AP8214

|
SiExcel – Excel can lock up on repeated use of Microsoft Excel's™ Insert Function Repeated use of the Microsoft Excel's™ Insert Function to enter structure parameters may cause Excel to lock up. This appears to be caused by the Insert Function trying to run multiple calculations while entering values for the structure parameters. This does not appear to occur on first use of the Insert Function as the parameter fields are blank and the formula does not have sufficent detail to perform a calculation of e.g. Z0, Zdiff, etc. The issue appears to occur when modifying an existing formula causing Excel's Insert Function to perform a multi-threaded calculation on every key press. This eventually swamps the SiExcel Calculation Engine and causes a lock-up in Excel. The recommendation is to use the Insert Function for the initial compilation of the formula and then on subsequent calculation changes, use the Formula Bar or initiate a new fresh calculation and use the Insert Function. |
