1996

Toneohm 550A &Toneohm 850A
Restyled with new injection molded cases, the 550A and 850A responded to customer
feedback that a vertical front panel was more suited to placing above the bench on
a shelf – the previous units with a wedge design taking up too much bench space

1996

T1000A Fault Locator
The T1000 inherited the same industrial design as the 850A and
550A and re utilised a common case.

1996

Toneohm 970 Bare Board Repair Station
A "stripped back" Toneohm 950 targetted at bare boards failed
to gain the traction of the full featured 950. We had missed the
fact that PCB fabricators often needed to test loaded PCBs to
prove shorts were assembly rather than fabrication related.

1997

PFL780 Fault Locator
Market pressure to add power on digital functional test for "glue logic" ICs
combined with the now ubiquitous PC and a stronger appetite for virtual
instrumentation led to the PFL780 combining power off ASA signature
analysis and power on digital functional IC test in a single pass

1997

SMD Probes
Component density and narrower pin pitches encouraged us to develop a range of
Surface Mounted Device Probes with guide combs to secure accurate probe location.
These opened the ability for rapid power-off testing on surface mount devices.

1997

FT100 Flying Probe Test System
Smaller footprint devices and more complex and large scale PCBs led to the FT100
flying probe test system which proved invaluable in service centres and low volume
high mix PCB assembly operations.

1999

ZCalc Impedance Calculator
Our first step into the world of software – Zcalc used IPC equations for PCB transmission lines and
was offered as a no cost promotional tool to support CITS controlled impedance test system sales.

2000

CITS500s4 Controlled Impedance Test System
The market for impedance controlled test systems grew rapidly and as
more and more high speed logic and RF applications grew, the need
for testing single ended and differential lines resulted in the Polar
CITS500s4 – 4 channels of single ended or differential test.
The CITS500s4 featured mutli point air line reference calibration

CITS25 Differential Controlled Iimpedance Calculator
Polar's first field solver - employing Green's function and Method of Moments.
George Green (14 July 1793 – 31 May 1841) was a self taught son of a baker
in Nottingham England. It wasn't until the 1960s that compute power became
fast enough for George Green's math to really come into life.

RITS500s
Automatic impedance test with built in reference air lines.

2001

RITS520a
Automatic impedance test for 18x24 panel sizes or large quantities
of coupons. The relatively slow tact time of impedance test meant
that stand alone CITS significantly outsold these units so they were
gradually withdrawn - however some still remain in active service

Si6000 Controlled Impedance Field Solver "Quicksolver"
The Si6000 established our place as the "go to" field solver for
the PCB industry. Now with goal seeking and solving for target
impedance – the Si6000 also added easy unit switching for an
industry that loves to mix dimensional units.

2001

SiExcel
The Si6000 was originally implemented on a spreadsheet, but the Quicksolver
interface became much more popular owing to its "click and calculate" simple
user interface. SiExel customers could create a variety of exotic spreadsheets
based on the underlying solvers.

2003

CADView
Launched to automate the programming of the FT100 flying probe test system
which previously relied entirely on manual programming of test positions
with a joystick and CRT monitor / video camera

2004

CITS800s4 Controlled Impedance Test System
The CITS800s4 futher extended the calibration for higher and lower impedance
applications – especially for Rambus(TM) memory which was popular at that time.

Si8000m Lossless Controlled Impedance Quick Solver
Proliferation of new material types meant some stackups had multiple dielectric constants in the same impedance structure,
and resin pressed between the traces of differential pairs meant that the Green's function solver in the Si6000 and CITS25
had run its course. The Si8000m deploys a boundary element field solver (BEM). The UI had a makeover with production
tolerance prediction and sensitivity analysis tools built in.

2005

SB200 PCB Stackup Builder – Calculation, Documentation
Stackups were getting complex in 2005, though simple compared with today's sequential lamination
/ rigid flex / back drilled constructions. We were encouraged to build a low cost stackup tool for
"all designers" – it failed to gain traction and the "beancounters" tried to kill it off - but persistence
meant it was the origin of Speedstack – Polar's most commercially successful product to date.

2005

Si9000e PCB Transmission Line Controlled Impedance Field Solver
Another milestone product – with widespread use in both design and fabrication. The arrival of ultra high speed serial comms fed
a demand for an easy to use accurate insertion loss field solver. Based on the Si8000m GUI familiar to the fabrication community
– the Si9000e is a flagship product. Over the years it has grown increasingly sophisticated with S-parameter output, causal
dielectric modeling,and a range of popular roughness modeling options.
